~Service Project~
Now that all your research is complete (Lesson Activity #5) and you have learned much
about the problem of homelessness, you may begin planning your service project
to make a real difference in the lives of those who are homeless.
Each class (or participating group) is to choose a homeless shelter or organization within their community to benefit from their service project. Please make contact with the shelter or organization first and ask what their immediate needs are in order to better serve them. This may also be as helpful as serving in a local soup kitchen.
Some ideas for your service project may include a school or community wide drive for:
-Personal hygiene products
(travel sized which you can make into kits and include personal notes)
-Winter necessities: coats, blankets, sleeping bags, socks, hats, gloves
-Shoes for adults and children!
-Book drive for children, teens, and adults
-Organize a "sock hop" for sock donations
or a "hat week" theme for a hat collection.
Don't forget to advertise your service project around your school and community.
And of course, take lots of pictures and video and submit them to our site to share!
Please email them to [email protected]
**After you had served in your community and your service project is complete, please share your reflection of your service expereince in our Live Journal.
